2019 Rules

18+ MENS TOURNAMENT - PLAYERS MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE AS OF JUNE 5, 2019 TO BE DEEMED ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TOURNAMENT.  TOURNAMENT CONVENORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO PERFORM AGE AND IDENTIFICATION VERIFICATION AT THEIR DISCRETION AT ANY TIME DURING THE TOURNAMENT.

CANADIAN ADULT HOCKEY ASSOCIATION RULES APPLIED THROUGHOUT TOURNAMENT, WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS:

  1. ANY PLAYER AMASSING THREE (3) PENALTIES DURING A GAME WILL BE EJECTED FROM THE GAME.

  2. ANY INFRACTION DEEMED TO HAVE BEEN PERFORMED WITH THE INTENT OF INJURING AN OPPONENT WILL RESULT IN THE PLAYER BEING EJECTED FROM THE GAME AND ASSESSED A SUSPENSION.

  3. ANY PLAYER PARTICIPATING IN A FIGHT WILL BE EJECTED FROM THE GAME AND SUSPENDED FROM THE TOURNAMENT.

  4. ANY PLAYER LEAVING THE PLAYERS BENCH TO PARTICIPATE IN A FIGHT WILL BE EJECTED FROM THE GAME AND SUSPENDED FROM THE TOURNAMENT.

  5. BODY CHECKING WILL RESULT IN A MINOR PENALTY (THIS IS A NON-CONTACT TOURNAMENT).

  6. CHANGING PLAYERS ON THE ICE WILL BE PERMITTED AT ANY TIME DURING THE GAME WITH THE EXCEPTION BEING A TEAM THAT IS SHORT-HANDED. THE CHANGE MUST THEN OCCUR ON THE FLY UNTIL AN EVEN STRENGTH SITUATION IS BACK IN PLACE.  CHANGING PLAYERS IS PERMITTED AT ANY TIME DURING STOP TIME SITUATIONS (3RD PERIOD AND OVERTIME).

  7. SLAPSHOTS ARE PERMITTED IN ALL DIVISIONS.

  8. 2 LINE PASSES ARE PERMITTED, THE RED LINE IS IN PLAY ONLY FOR ICING CALLS AND FACEOFFS.

  9. NO PLAYER WILL BE PERMITTED TO PLAY WITHOUT A CSA APPROVED HELMET.

  10. A PLAYER MUST PLAY IN AT LEAST TWO (2) OF THE THREE (3) ROUND ROBIN TOURNAMENT GAMES TO BE PERMITTED TO PLAY IN THE FINAL TOURNAMENT GAMES ON SUNDAY, UNLESS APPROVED BY TOURNAMENT CONVENORS IN ADVANCE.

  11. THERE WILL BE A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY IN PLACE FOR ABUSE OF ON-ICE OFFICIALS, AS WELL AS ANY AND ALL TOURNAMENT STAFF.

  12. IF ANY PLAYER APPEARS INTOXICATED ON THE ICE AT ANY TIME, THE ON-ICE OFFICIALS RESERVE THE RIGHT, AT THEIR DISCRETION, TO REMOVE THE PLAYER FROM THE GAME.

  13. ALL PLAYERS MUST REGISTER WITH THE TOURNAMENT STAFF PRIOR TO PLAYING THEIR FIRST GAME IN ORDER TO SIGN A LIABILITY WAIVER.  ANY PLAYER THAT DOES NOT SIGN THE WAIVER FORM AND IS PRESENT ON THE ICE FOR ANY GAME WILL BE EJECTED FROM THE GAME.

  14. MINOR PENALTIES WILL BE THREE (3) MINUTES IN LENGTH DURING RUNNING TIME PLAY, AND TWO (2) MINUTES IN LENGTH DURING STOP TIME PLAY.

  15. MAJOR PENALTIES WILL BE SEVEN (7) MINUTES IN LENGTH DURING RUNNING TIME PLAY, AND FIVE (5) MINUTES IN LENGTH DURING STOP TIME PLAY.

  16. ALL GAMES (ROUND-ROBIN, CONSOLATION, AND FINALS) SHALL CONSIST OF THREE (3) PERIODS. THE FIRST AND SECOND PERIODS WILL BE 14 MINUTES RUNNING TIME. THE THIRD PERIOD WILL BE 10 MINUTES STOP TIME.  WARMUP IS TO BE 2 MINUTES OF RUNNING TIME.  STOP TIME WILL BE SWITCHED TO RUNNING TIME IN THE THIRD PERIOD OF PLAY IF THE SCORE DIFFERENTIAL IS FIVE (5) GOALS OR MORE.  A DELAY OF GAME PENALTY WILL BE ASSESSED TO ANY TEAM DELAYING THE START OF THE GAME BY 5 MINUTES OR MORE.  ANY TEAM DELAYING THE GAME BY MORE THAN 7 MINUTES WILL FORFEIT THE GAME.  A TEAM MUST HAVE FIVE (5) SKATERS AND A GOALTENDER DRESSED TO START ANY GAME.ALL GAMES DURING THE ROUND-ROBIN FORMAT WILL NOT FEATURE OVERTIME PLAY IN THE EVENT OF A TIE (IF TIED AT END OF REGULATION, GAME WILL END IN A TIE). 

  17. THE DECISION OF THE ON-ICE OFFICIALS IS FINAL ON ALL CALLS AND MAY NOT BE DISPUTED OR PROTESTED. 

  18. TWO (2) OFFICIALS WILL BE PRESENT ON THE ICE DURING EACH GAME. IF AN INJURY OCCURS TO AN OFFICIAL, THE GAME MAY PROCEED WITH THE USE OF ONLY ONE (1) OFFICIAL UPON APPROVAL OF THE TOURNAMENT CONVENORS.

  19. DRESSING ROOMS ARE TO BE VACATED WITHIN 30 MINUTES AFTER THE GAME HAS ENDED, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FINAL SCHEDULED GAME ON A GIVEN DAY. THEN THE ROOMS MUST BE VACATED AT THE DISCRETION OF ARENA STAFF.

  20. NO PLAYER MAY PLAY FOR MORE THAN ONE TEAM IN THE TOURNAMENT (ALL DIVISIONS).  AN EXCEPTION MAY BE MADE FOR GOALTENDERS IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION AND IS SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE TOURNAMENT CONVENORS AND THE OPPOSING TEAM.

 

TOURNAMENT POINT SYSTEM:
  1. GAME POINTS WILL BE DETERMINED AS FOLLOWS:

  2. THE WINNING TEAM IN EACH GAME WILL BE AWARDED TWO (2) POINTS.  THE LOSING TEAM IN EACH GAME WILL NOT BE AWARDED ANY POINTS (0). IN THE EVENT OF A TIE GAME DURING ROUND-ROBIN GAME PLAY, EACH TEAM WILL BE AWARDED ONE (1) POINT FOR THE TIE.

  3. GOALS FOR AND GOALS AGAINST (PLUS/MINUS) WILL BE RECORDED FOR EACH TEAM FOLLOWING EACH GAME. 

  4. THE TOP TWO (2) TEAMS WITHIN EACH DIVISION WILL PLAY IN THE DIVISION FINAL GAME ON SUNDAY FOLLOWING ROUND-ROBIN PLAY.  THE BOTTOM TWO (2) TEAMS WITHIN EACH DIVISION WILL PLAY IN THE DIVISION CONSOLATION FINAL GAME ON SUNDAY FOLLOWING ROUND-ROBIN PLAY.

  5. SHOULD A TEAM GO 3 WINS WITH NO LOSSES DURING THE ROUND ROBIN PLAY, THE TEAM WILL AUTOMATICALLY PLACE FIRST IN THEIR DIVISION AND ADVANCE TO THE DIVISION FINAL AS THE TOP SEED (1ST PLACE IN DIVISION).

  6. IN THE EVENT OF A TIE IN POINTS WITHIN THE DIVISIONAL POINT STANDINGS AT THE END OF ROUND-ROBIN PLAY, TIE BREAKS WILL BE DETERMINED AS FOLLOWS:  

  • FIRST TIE BREAK: HEAD-TO-HEAD RESULT IN ROUND-ROBIN PLAY BETWEEN TWO TEAMS (WINNER OF GAME BETWEEN TEAMS PLACES HIGHER IN DIVISION STANDINGS)

  • SECOND TIE BREAK: THE TEAM WITH THE BETTER PLUS/MINUS RATING IN ROUND-ROBIN PLAY (COMBINED GOALS FOR/GOALS AGAINST RATING) PLACES HIGHER IN DIVISION STANDINGS

  • THIRD TIE BREAK: THE TEAM WITH THE FEWER PENALTY MINUTES IN ROUND-ROBIN PLAY PLACES HIGHER IN DIVISION STANDINGS 

  1. ALL CONSOLATION AND DIVISION FINAL GAMES WILL FEATURE ``SUDDEN DEATH`` OVERTIME PLAY IN THE EVENT OF A TIE SCORE AT THE END OF REGULATION TIME.  THE OVERTIME PERIOD WILL CONSIST OF FIVE (5) MINUTES OF STOP TIME WITH EACH TEAM PLAYING WITH FOUR (4) PLAYERS ON THE ICE, ASIDE FROM THE GOALTENDER.  IF THE SCORE IS STILL TIED FOLLOWING THE OVERTIME PERIOD, A SHOOTOUT WILL OCCUR TO DETERMINE THE WINNER.  THE SHOOTOUT WILL FEATURE THREE (3) SEPARATE SHOOTERS FROM EACH TEAM.  EACH TEAM WILL SHOOT AT SEPARATE TIMES AND NOT SIMULTANEOUSLY.  THE ON-ICE OFFICIALS WILL DETERMINE WHICH TEAM WILL SHOOT FIRST.  EACH TEAM MUST USE THREE (3) SEPARATE PLAYERS FOR THE SHOOTOUT.  IF THE SHOOTOUT DOES NOT DETERMINE A WINNER FOLLOWING THE FIRST ROUND OF THREE (3) SHOOTERS, THEN EACH TEAM WILL CONTINUE TO USE A DIFFERENT SHOOTER.  THE SAME PLAYER MAY ONLY SHOOT MORE THAN ONCE IF THE ENTIRE ROSTER HAS BEEN USED FOR THE SHOOTOUT WITHOUT A WINNER DECIDED.   IF THE SHOOTOUT IS NOT DECIDED FOLLOWING THE FIRST ROUND OF THREE (3) SHOOTERS PER TEAM, THEN A SUDDEN DEATH FORMAT OCCURS, WITH THE FIRST TEAM TO SCORE FOLLOWING ANY ROUND OF ONE (1) SHOOTER PER TEAM BEING DEEMED THE WINNER.
